ER402 – Widening of Fort Road and Mountbatten Road between Nicoll Highway and Kampong Arang Road
To enhance overall road connectivity and capacity to support developments such as the Kallang Riverside development, the Singapore Sports Hub and redevelopment of Kallang Industrial Estate, stretches of Mountbatten Road and Fort Road have been improved.
This road improvement project in the Kallang area involved the widening of road and other associated civil works. The widening of road included the broadening of a vehicular bridge spanning across Geylang River. In total, two prestressed precast (PSPC) beams with a dimension of 38 m and 44 m in length by 3 m in width by 1.6 m in depth were launched for the widening of this vehicular bridge.
Apart from the construction of typical U-drains, a 4.5m-width U-drain was also constructed along Mountbatten Road. The total length of this section of U-drain is 310 m.
Besides, the project called for the building of a new covered pedestrian overhead bridge (POB) with barrier-free ramps to replace the existing POB across Mountbatten Road. The work scope included the demolition of an existing POB without affecting the live traffic and the launching of single PSPC beam with a length of about 38 m for the construction of new POB. On the other hand, there was some additions and alternations works to an existing POB which comprised the construction of covered staircases and ramps at both sides of POB as well as the erection of covered linkways connecting the staircases to the existing bus shelters.
