Rehabilitation of Aircraft Parking Stands (Phase 4) at Singapore Changi Airport

Connecting 400 cities via 100 airlines, Singapore Changi Airport is one of the busiest airport in the world and it strives to upkeep its infrastructures in good shape to provide the best experience for the international travellers. Reconstruction of aircraft parking stands and ancillary facilities in phases were among the many efforts in place to enhance the safety and quality of airfield pavements.

In this last rehabilitation phase, nine aircraft parking stands, one adjacent taxiway and one taxiway bridge were involved. To push the boundary of sustainable construction further, the replacement level of natural coarse aggregate with processed demolition waste of existing aircraft parking stands in new concrete mixture was increased from 20 % in Phase 1 to 50 % in this particular phase.

For greater operational efficiency and more robust drainage system, the grated drains next to the parking stands were upgraded too. Installed with independent covers and frames, these new drains were supported by 150 mm RC piles at an interval of 2 mm. To conclude this project, the affected taxiways were reinstated with the hot mix asphalt – Changi (HMAC PG 82) and appropriate pavement markings, profiling suitable terrain for the erection of bus stops in time to come.

Our fast turnaround time with zero safety infringement in this project was built on the meticulous planning and precise execution by our dedicated project crews, equipped with wealth of experiences, expertise and understanding of airfield environment.
